New Highs (or Lows?) in Parental Exhaustion
This morning I fell asleep while I was getting my hair cut--sitting bolt upright in a loud and crowded salon where Kate Perry's "I Kissed a Girl"* seemed to be on a constant replay and my hair guy was giving me his review of "Dark Night," which I was actually interested in hearing.
It was only a few seconds (I think), but jeez.
*Does anyone else think that Jill Sobule's "I Kissed a Girl" is a much better song or am I just showing my age?
I've actually only heard Jill Sobule's version - so I know I'm old because I must not be listening to the radio enough!

I agree with you 100% the old song was great and I am not a fan of the new one at all!

The new one is attention seeking in a 'girls gone wild, look at how dangerous and sexy I am' kind of way.
The old one is fun and cheeky.

Oh, god, I hate that Kate Perry song. I heard her perform it on So You Think You Can Dance, and it actually made me laugh and laugh because Kate Perry cannot dance to save her soul. Nor can she sing. Gah. Argh! I hate that song!
But I do like the Jill Souble song. I think you're showing your good taste, not your age.

In the salon? Wow. You are tired!
I hope you get sleep soon. I hear that someday they will go to bed by themselves and sleep through the whole night. And make their own breakfasts in the morning, letting you sleep in! I dream of those days... when I actually get enough sleep to dream.

Once I fell asleep at the dentist office while they were drilling in my mouth.

I had completely forgotten about that song until I listened to it just now! :-)

Yes...I've fallen asleep while my hair was being blown out at a salon. Yes...the original was better (saw her live with Warren Zevon!!)
Yes... I am old..but with great hair and good taste in music!

p.s. See http://3littlegirls-ohmy.blogspot.com/2008/07/whenwhere.html if you want to share tired stories....
Also, we have reached the point where the three little girls do sleep in and do make their own breakfast. (Or, rather, the oldest makes for the little ones... She's only 6.5.) (See http://3littlegirls-ohmy.blogspot.com/2008/07/slacker-parents.html for more info)

And here I thought I was tired because I literally pitched over on the couch, laid my head on a Boppy and fell asleep for an unknown length of time. In the salon? Sheesh.
Also, as of last week I had never heard of Katy Perry or her stupid song, now it, and she, are everywhere. What Shannon said. Gah.

Here's my age: Who's Kate Perry?
I loved the Jill Sobule one, though.

Jill Sobule, without a doubt.
I've wanted to nap while at the salon getting my hair done on more than one occasion; alas, I've not had the chance to so I'll live vicariously through you.
Hope you get some rest :-)

Jill Sobule, hands down. Do you remember the tori spelling song?

Darlin', what shows your age is that you called it "Dark Night" instead of "Dark Knight." I'm laughing at us both because since having my daughter I never go to movies and am completely out of the loop. Unless that was just a typo on your part, in which case you clearly needed that little nap (or blackout, as the case may be). :-)

that's hilarious; i have an anecdote to share... on the way to meet a friend for drinks after not being out of the house for weeks when josie was still a baby, i went to a full-service gas station b/c it was on the way, and i actually fell asleep while the attendant was filling the tank. he said, "uhm, ma'am. uhm, excuse me, ma'am." fortunately i woke up before he had to shake my shoulder.
